RELEVANT COURSEWORK

Analog Drawing

Learnt both hand drafting and modeling techniques through the replication of an existing building (Porchdog House by Marlon Blackwell).

Building Physics

Studied existing lighting and thermal performances of an existing building (Porchdog House by Marlon Blackwell) using Austodesk Ecotect and proposed improvements to reach optimal efficiency.

Digital Media

Learned computer software and how to program digital simulations and animations.

Descriptive Geometry

Learned how to solve architectural problems strictly with constructions, drawing tools and geometric methods.

Context

Studied local urban Pittsburgh settings, their successes and 'place-making' abilities, and designed alternative solutions for many.

Materials + Assembly

Studied building codes, structural systems, construction types, and safety precautions through 3D modeling and 2D drawings.

Human Factors

Observed, researched and analyzed a building on campus (Gates Hillman Center) to collect data on its usage and efficiency and propose improvements to help maximize usage for all.

Structures + Statics

Combined architecture and engineering to understand and study structural systems, performance and construction.

Environment 1: Climate + Energy

In-depth semester long analysis on a building's performance and energy usage and re-designed aspects to maximize energy and reduce resource usage.

Environment II: Design Integration of Active Building Systems

Learned about active and passive systems within building design, and applied the strategies to existing buildings and res-designed to help them reach net zero energy and carbon emissions.

Real Estate Design + Development

In depth study of a local Pittsburgh project ranging from feasibility, predevelopment, zoning, construction, and marketing, in addition to substantial financial components of property valuation, budgeting, and investment.

Ethics + Practice

Learned about the role of an architect in practice, in relation to their obligations to the client, the profession, and the community, and how ethics play a part in the interdependence of the field.
